Our Objective

The Powderhorn Institute is dedicated to demonstrating renewable energy technologies of solar and wind power. We feel the Southwest region of the United States is ideal for the development of solar and wind energy systems.

Our small, remote rural power station will highlight the limited impact on the local environment caused by the placement of these forms of sustainable energy collection.

We believe that much of our sustainable future will be based on the energy provided by the sun and wind, and that our region should lead the country in demonstrating and applying these technologies to everyday life.

Anticipating future energy needs indicates conservation as an excellent starting point for evaluation of our national energy policy. Renewable energy will allow us to curtail destructive modes of energy production and consumption and envision a future which will be sustainable for all generations to come.

We feel that conservation of all natural resources should be the most important issue facing our country and a major feature of our foreign policy. If we truly strive for sustainability, we must begin as a nation to address the sanctity of our relationship to our natural environment, which ultimately sustains us.

Our intention at the Powderhorn Institute is to use our website to create a simple and informative destination that addresses sustainability issues. We feel that the next generations have to be informed in a clear and direct way concerning the issues, which will become pronounced as population pressure exerts itself on our supply of natural resources. We will demonstrate the effectiveness of our mini solar and wind power plant in a new, graphic way, which will be accessible to people of all ages.
